Follow yout heart - Chapter 3 - Lilly

Lilly sat in her room on the window seat her sock clad feet against the wall in front of her, a book balanced on her knees, the moon shone brightly on her non-descript mousy brown hair as her chocolate almost black eyes moved quickly across the pages the letters on the pages filtering from her eyes to her mind to create a story and world for her that she could not see every day. She noticed nothing, not the moon rising then starting to fall, not the cars that passed on their way home from the late shift or the crickets outside. So engulfed in the world the author had created. She had been transported back to a time where Knights in shining amour still existed, and they saved maiden’s in distress from wicked stepfathers who wished to marry them off to old men. It was a world she frequented often, the books that lined her shelves where from every era you could think of, with one main theme, romance and heroes.

As the night wore on she un-consciously grabbed her dark blue fleece blanket from the floor and wrapped it slowly around her legs to knock a bit off the chill, as her oversized t-shirt wasn’t long enough to cover her legs. Tucking a stand of hair behind her ear she did not noticed the boy across the street watching her, but then…she never did. He was well aware of her elfin like features delicate and her hazel eyes doe like and oh so innocent of the things of the world. That was what drew him to her, her innocence, for the romance novels she read told her nothing but vague pictures of men and women but even though she was seventeen she had no wish or desire to know.

Her world existed in books, Lilly was more interested in the men and knights in her books to notice any that were in the real world. This also meant that she did not take note when they noticed her, as her mind was almost always stuck in the book she was reading whether or not she actually had the book with her. And when she did take time to look at the men around her none captured her interest because none of them measured up to her fantasy standards of what she wanted in a man.

The silence of the room was broken as she released a soft, sad sigh, the same sigh that could be heard every time she finished a story and closed the book. Leaning her head back and only now taking time to look at a moon that was almost gone, she thought of the story and wished that would happen to her. How she would love to meet a rouge who was really a prince, be a maiden that all the men sought after, but alas she knew that would not be so, at least it seemed so to her. Pushing the blanket down her legs she stood up and raised her arms over her head and stretched arching her back with cat like grace, before she took the book and walked across the room where she slipped the book into it’s slot. She looked at the clock only half surprised to see the red numbers blinking 5’o clock. Yawning she flipped the light off and crept into bed snuggling under the cover bringing her blanket around her to enclose her she let her eyes slip close, unaware that her life was about to change drastically in a way that she would have never imagined.
